Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of gender on politeness and communication, and its reflection of gender on politeness and communication in men and women. Also, this study is to find out the domains where the effect of gender on politeness and communication play a role, and the resulting reasons. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher selected a sample that consisted of debates that had taken place in the elections of 2016/2017. The instruments of the study were based on an analytical approach and three tables that were divided into categories of rude responses, interruption, and sarcasm. Each category was divided into two columns: male and female. The findings revealed that the effect of politeness in speech engages the participants in the speech, from both genders, and encourages respect and effective communication. The differences in the use of language - in speeches- between male and female also, identifies the group of listeners and their responses. However, the study shows that the differences between the percentages of males and females in different categories does not change based on the nature of the speaker, but rather, the changes, by using different speaking strategies, including good choice of words , less interruptions and IX questions, politeness, and ensuring that all parts of the conversation are communicated effectively.
