Abstract

A new chemically modified carbon paste electrode (CMCPE) based on N,N�-disalicylidenehexameythylenediaminate Cu(II) complex (CuSALHMN) has been developed for determination of Cu2+ in real samples. The performance of this electrode was investigated using potentiometric measurements. The developed sensor exhibits a good linear response of 31�2±1�0 mV per decade over the concentration range of 4�1×10−7–1�0×10−2 M. It has a very low limit of detection, 6�2×10−8 M (3.9 ppb), with response time less than 12 s. The proposed electrode revealed very good selectivities with respect to alkali, alkaline earth and some transition metal ions and could be used in pH range of 4.0–6.5. This modified electrode was successfully applied as an indicator electrode for potentiometric titration of Cu2+ with EDTA and for direct determination of copper in multivitamin tablets and tap water
