Abstract

The study aimed at identifying the historical development of Malaysian foreign policy towards the Palestinian cause before 1981. It focused on the impact of the Malaysian foreign policy on the Palestinian cause in the period 1981-2003. Moreover, the study sheds light on the changes that occurred in the determinants of the Malaysian foreign policy, Malaysian institutions of decision's making, goals and implementations' tools of Malaysian foreign policy in relation to the Palestinian cause in the period 2003-2015. The study addresses the main question: How was the Malaysian foreign policy towards the Palestinian cause made during the period 2003 -2015? A number of sub-questions were addressed also. The study used the systematic integration as the researcher used the approach of systems' analysis in addition to some other approaches which are the descriptive approach, the historical approach and the content analysis. The study concluded to the following results: 1- The Malaysian foreign policy towards the Palestinian cause during the era of Mr. Mohammed Najib was in tune with the policy of Najib's predecessors particularly Mahathir Mohammed and Abdulla Badawi. Malaysia's position towards the developments on the Palestinian arena was clear. Malaysia condemned the Israeli aggression on Gaza in 2008-2009. It also condemned the continued Israeli siege and the Israeli aggression on Gaza in 2012. Malaysia supported Palestine in the bid in the United Nations to get membership in 2013 and it clearly denounced the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip in 2014. It also was neutral in the issue of the Palestinian split as Malaysia called on the Palestinian factions to end the national dispute and for unity government. The study recommends the following: 1- Palestine has to pay more attention to promote political, economic and cultural relations with the Islamic countries that are economically developing especially in Asia such as Malaysia. Palestine should recognize that heading towards the east is currently beyond the mere admiration, but it is heading to a new international leadership. خ 2- The Palestinian factions must realize that the Palestinian division affects not only the life in Palestine, but also it affects the international relations negatively, especially with countries that support the right of Palestine to be liberated. The Palestinian division makes solidarity issues problematic because of the multiplicity of Palestinian representation.
