Abstract

This study aimed to know the risks of using derivatives on the performance of companies in the Kuwait Stock Exchange. To achieve the objective of the study and testing of hypotheses, the researcher dealing with two types of data are of secondary data and primary data, the study population consisted of financial intermediaries who work in brokerage firms that invest in joint stock companies listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange's about (180), the sample study of selected financial intermediaries who work in brokerage firms that invest in joint stock companies and consisted of 142 respondents. The study found a number of results: 1-The presence of statistically significant effect of the market risk of derivatives on the performance of companies. 2-The presence of statistically significant effect of the credit risk of derivatives on the performance of companies. 3- The presence of statistically significant effect of regulatory or operational risks of derivatives on the performance of companies. 4- The presence of a statistically significant effect of the legal risks of derivatives on the performance of companies.In light of these findings the study recommends the following: 1- The need to hedge when using financial derivatives to the risks arising from the change in the price level. 2- The need to estimate the creditworthiness of the counterparties and commitment ceilings for certain credit risk when using financial derivatives and to make sure the borrower's ability to meet its obligations to the lender on time.
