Abstract
The Research has dealt with the "Tunnel Strategy" of the Palestinian Resistance, relating to the management of the 2014 war against Gaza. The study aimed to identify the management of war to the Palestinian resistance, and the study of the impact of tunnels on the enemy's strategy. The Study has employed a number of Research Approaches such as: The Descriptive, Analytical, Historical, and contents' analysis Approaches. The Research has also used the Interview Tool with certain experts and researchers. The Study consists of four Chapters: The First Chapter represents the general framework of study while the Second Chapter has dealt with the Palestinian Resistance: its development and the major factions that took part in the 2014 war of Gaza, and the role of the Gaza Strip's military topography. The Third Chapter tackled the strategic importance of the Tunnels and their use in the previous war experiences and their emergence in Gaza Strip, their role in bringing about the withdrawal of the Occupation from Gaza in 2005 AD; the Tunnels technology, types, war management and the fundamentals employed in the Tunnels affair. The Fourth Chapter has reviewed the employment of the Tunnel strategies during the 2014 war against Gaza, their impact on the Israeli Occupation, their prospect in any future war, the Occupation's reaction against the strategies of Tunnels, and the countermeasures taken by the Resistance to confront them. The Study concluded with the following important findings: - Tunnels are a strategic threat, and are widely considered to be the most serious menace to Israel. - The Tunnel Strategies have played a pivotal role in the steadfastness of Gaza, and have enabled the Palestinian Resistance to preserve their capabilities, military and political leaderships and left growing concerns for the Israeli military units' ranks as well as the Israeli populace. - By adopting the Tunnels' Strategy, the Palestinian Resistance aimed to overcome the limitations of the small area of the seaside Gaza Strip, and the lack of natural physical features that can help the Resistance with camouflage concealment and taking the Israeli Occupation unawares. ز - There have been genuine and desperate attempts by the Israeli side to resolve the Tunnels' "problem", though most of them have failed. Yet, the issue has never been abandoned, and work is still underway to find other solutions. - The Tunnel Strategy has enabled the Resistance forces to surmount the characteristic supremacy enjoyed by the Israeli army in terms of training, armament and munition, and deprived it of using many of its points of superiority in battle. The Study had a number of recommendations, most important of which are: - The need for making substantial changes to the types and forms of the tunnels, not depending only on one particular type. - Employment of the suitable inter-Palestinian Resistance factions' coordination in war administration in a way that ensures the optimal military performance on the ground. - The need for making the best use of the Tunnels for future preservation of the honorable history of the Resistance, immortalizing its role by turning those tunnels into tourist attractions and sites to be visited and seen. - Expanding the Tunnel's Strategy to include sheltersct as well, aiming at protecting civilians against Israeli targeting, under the auspices of the respective local authorities .
