Abstract

“Common Leadership styles in media institutions and it’s relation with Job satisfaction, Al-Aqsa Media Network as a model.” This study aims to identify the leadership styles in Al-Aqsa Media Network, its staff satisfaction level and the relationship between these two aspects as perceived by the Network staff. The study adopted the descriptive analytical approach as it fits the topic of the study by describing and analyzing Al-Aqsa Media Network common leadership styles, staff satisfaction and the relationship between according to the staff. The study population include all 380 staff working at Al-Aqsa Media Network of different administrative ranks within its four branches: Al-Aqsa satellite channel, Al-Aqsa Voice (radio station), Al-Aqsa local channel, and Shehab News Agency. The sample was determined by using comprehensive survey where 300 staff out of the total population (79%) responded. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire consisted of three sections was designed, (personal and job information, the nature of common leadership styles and job satisfaction). The study reveals that the democratic style is the predominant one in Al-Aqsa Media Network with 78.46%. The study reflects that the autocratic style is not followed in Al-Aqsa Media Network and the Laissez-Faire style, it was not absolutely approved if it is used or not by the network managers. It was noticed that there was no substantial effects for the various branches of the Network on staff responses regarding their managers’ leadership styles. The findings show that democratic style is predominant in all four supervisory levels. As for staff job satisfaction, the findings revile that staff are generally satisfied with 75.65%, which is a good percentage; meanwhile there was no significant impact because of the different network branches on staff job satisfaction. Moreover, the findings reveal that there is a strong direct relation between using democratic style and job satisfaction and a weak direct relation between Laissez-Faire style and job satisfaction. The study did not prove that there is relation between job satisfaction and autocratic style at Al-Aqsa Media Network. ىىىى ز Abstract The study has reached a number of recommendations: - There is a need for enhancing the practice of democratic style at AlAqsa Media Network in accordance with the characteristics of those who work in the media field. - Handle some negative features of both Laissez-Faire style and autocratic style as they were proved existing network managers’ style. - Staff should be promoted once they are eligible and salaries should be increased according to the available resources and capabilities. - It is recommended to measure the network staff satisfaction regularly by using scientific measurement methods.
