Abstract

The study aimed at identifying the relationship between leadership style of management and job satisfaction among staff of primary health care centers in Gaza governorate. The study aimed also at identifying the impact of the following variables “gender, age, educational background, years of experience, job title, and place of residence” on primary care workers’ perception of leadership style of management and job satisfaction in Gaza governorate during the second semester of the academic year 2012. In light of the study objectives, the analytical descriptive approach was utilized. This approach is based on providing a comprehensive description of the phenomenon under study, analyzing its components, and getting to know the relations of these components without any interference from the researcher in the outcomes. A random sample of 389 primary health care centers employees; both men and women were selected. These employees are not part of the administrative staff cadre. To fulfill the study objectives, two types of questionnaires were used: (1) Leadership style of management questionnaire, and (2) Job satisfaction questionnaire. The researcher also used the interviewing technique to determine the compatibility of managerial leadership opinion with that of workers in primary health care centers. The study revealed that the job satisfaction among workers of primary care centers in Gaza governorate is 62.28%; at an acceptable level. It was also revealed that the democratic leadership style is the prevailing style of management at primary care centers in Gaza governorate. The democratic level practices was at a good level of 65%, followed by the autocratic level, then The loose leadership style The autocratic level was “weak” at 58.11%, and the loose leadership style Was also weak at 56.4 There are significant statistical differences at ( 0.05 ≥a) between the average estimation of primary care workers regarding job satisfaction attributed to the following variables “gender, age, educational background, years of experience, د job title, and salary”. The results also showed significant statistical differences at ( 0.05 ≥a) between the average estimation of primary care workers regarding the leadership styles; democratic, autocratic and Loose among leaders and job satisfaction attributed to the same variables. In light of these results, the researcher recommends to pay more attention to the democratic style of management as an important aspect of job satisfaction, to encourage staff to think creatively in problem solving, and to appreciate the efforts of the leaders who support their staff. The researcher also recommend to allocate time to listen to the staff, provide them with training and development opportunities relating to leadership styles in addition to the technical and administrative training followed at the health organization.
