Abstract

The study aimed to view the impact of land need for the future expansion of Israeli settlements in Jerusalem governorate, upon the available land needed for the future expansion of the Palestinian city and the surrounding towns. This lack of land, due to the settlements, will be evaluated in a way that we can feel its effect upon the individual share of urbanized land (M²p.C), and how it will affect the growth and appearance of new built up area. This will lead people to move from there original built up area to other new places within the governorate or even outside. The significance of the study arises from that it deals with the most important factor of the Palestinian Israeli conflict; which is the historical struggle upon land in Jerusalem (the holey city). The most important point in this study is that it has deled with this subject in scientific, mathematical way; depending on the basic standards of calculating the needs of land for both sides; so most of the results of the expected scenarios were shown as tables and maps presenting the case of each place, in addition to the calculations for the whole governorate. In order to reach the goal of this study, we have built a strategy to evaluate the current situation through collecting available data, translating it into layers drawn by (G.I.S) programs (Arc View). This data was analyzed depending on the standards and the expected scenarios. The results of the study had cleared the future situation of the governorate and the city, and the negative outcome of the settlements that will need to force Palestinians to emigrate from there own land. I hope that this study will be a clear message to those dealing with the future of Jerusalem. In any future negotiatings, they had to recognize the results of accepting the settlements as neighborhoods to the Palestinians.
