Abstract

Positive psychology was found in the nineties of the past century , it is the science concerned with the study of strengths and human virtues. Happiness considered of the most important topics studied in positive psychology. Studies show that people varying in the levels of happiness due to several reasons, including personality traits, self-esteem, genetics and other environmental and personal factors. the current research interested in examining the relationship between happiness and the big five factors of personality among the students of Damascus University. *Statement of Problem: The research problem is indicated in the following main research question: What is the relationship between happiness and the big five factors of personality(Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness to experience, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness) among the students of Damascus university? * Importance of the study: Importance of the research appears in the following points: 1-recency the research, it's one of the first researches on the local level. 2- Shed light on a relatively modern branch in psychology. * The Objectives of the research: This research aimed to : 1- knowing Correlation between the happiness and the big five factors of personality (neuroticism, extroversion, openness to experience, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness) among the members of the research sample. 2- knowing Correlation between the happiness and the big five factors of personality (neuroticism, extroversion, openness to experience, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness) among the members of the research sample, and that due to the variable (sex, specialty, academic year). II 3-Know the significance of differences in performance on the happiness questionnaire among the members of the research sample, and that due to the variable (sex, specialty, academic year). 4- Know the significance of differences in performance on the big five factors of personality inventory among the members of the research sample, and that due to the variable (sex, specialty, academic year). 5- know the predictability of happiness through the big five factors of personality. 6- Identify the level of happiness among members of the research sample *Hypotheses of the research: 1-No correlation statistically significant between performance on happiness questionnaire and performance on the big five factors of personality inventory (Neuroticism, Extroversion, Openness to experience, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness) among the members of the research sample. 2- No correlation statistically significant between performance on happiness questionnaire and performance on the big five factors of personality inventory (Neuroticism, Extroversion, Openness to experience, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness) among the members of the research sample, and that due to the variable (sex, specialty, academic year). 3- There are no statistically significant differences in the average performance of the members of the research sample on happiness questionnaire due to the variable (sex, specialty, academic year). 4- There are no statistically significant differences in the average performance of the members of the research sample on the big five factors of personality inventory (neuroticism, extroversion, openness to experience, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness) due to the variable (sex, specialty, academic year). *Research sample: The research sample was withdrawn stratified random sample of students from Damascus University (Faculty of Education,
